Keeps The Doctor Away?

I have heard the old saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" for as far back as I can remember. I'm just not sure if it was just made up by a mom trying to get her kids to eat more fruit or not. Even if that is the case, apples are very nutritious and have many health benefits.

Below are some "APPLE" facts from vitaminsdiary.com:
  • Ripe apples contain 80 per cent water and are virtually fat free.
  • Apples contain important minerals, notably potassium, which is needed for regulation of water balance and muscle function.
  • Apples provide a good source of vitamins, especially vitamin C.
  • One apple equals one portion of the five fruit and vegetables required for daily intake.
  • Apples contain 8-14 per cent natural fruit sugar that gets converted to energy.
  • This fruit has low sodium content.

*Tip: A single apple contains no fat or cholesterol, and provides more fiber than a serving of oatmeal. So, if you're thinking of skipping meals (which I don't recommend), try munching apples.

Apples are juicy and crunchy, we all have our favorite kinds. I'm a green apple girl, part sweet and part tart! "This fruit is so tempting, no wonder it lead to Adam and Eve's undoing"!
